"Give an Irishman lager for a month, and he's a dead man. An Irishman is lined with copper, and the beer corrodes it. But whiskey polishes the copper and is the saving of him, sir." - Mark Twain, Life on the Mississippi
Nestled between the Mississippi and Ohio rivers and the Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois, Grand River Spirits distills whiskey, brandy and other spirits as grand as the Old Man River.
Our whiskey is made with local corn and aged in white oak barrels that infuses them with flavor and color as rich as the seasons. The fruits picked from local orchards provide fresh, crisp flavor to our spirits. The region's long history of rebelliousness provides just enough of "what your mother warned you about" in each bottle of our Red Eye Moonshine.
Grand River Spirits is owned and operated by three Carbondale residents, including Karen Sisulak Binder, who runs the distillery. The still is operating from an temporary, experimental location on the west side of Carbondale. Regulations do not allow the public visit at this time. When the distillery moves to its permanent location it will feature a public tasting room and tours.
